In the early 1990’s there were several studies done that evaluated the effects of Lithium in drinking water in Texas. There are areas in Texas where lithium is not found naturally in drinking water and other areas where it exists in concentrations of 70-170 part per million. What these studies found was that in those area where lithium was non-existent there was a higher crime rate and increase incidence of rape.
Maybe it is time that we take the fluoride out of drinking water and add lithium. In addition, to lowering violent acts lithium has also been shown to help decrease symptoms of fibromyalgia, Graves disease, and cluster headaches. With alcoholism it seems to have different effects depending on the sex. For men it decreases anger, acting out and aggressive behavior. For women it decreases depression, crying, and weeping. It has also been shown to slow the aging process of the brain by its ability to increase replication of neurons.
