To continue the topic of brain training from yesterday, some researchers are finding that it is very beneficial for patients suffering from schizophrenia, depression, and obsessive compulsive disorder.
Mike Merzenich, a neuroscientist at UC, San Francisco, has found that disturbances of memory, attention and executive functions in schizophrenic can be restored to normal with brain training. He has also had promising early successes with depression, OCD and with stopping people showing early signs of schizophrenia from progressing to the full-blown disease. In his words,” no drug can do that”.
Another brain-training expert, Torkel Klingberg from Stockholm, Sweden heads a company called CogMed that sells a computer-based training program for children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Although the research of brain training is in its infancy it hold great prospects for some of the difficult to treat emotional and cognitive disorders.
