Unfortunately, allopathic medicine has little if anything to offer in the treatment of macular degeneration(MD). However, there are things that we can do to prevent this disease. There have been a number of epidemiological studies that have shown a protective effect in consuming foods rich in carotenoids, particularly dark green leafy vegetables, and fruit. One particular study showed a 35% reduced risk of developing macular degeneration when on this type of diet.
For those already suffering from MD we have found at our clinic that intravenous glutathione can actually stop the progression and even reverse by a certain percentage macular degeneration. Following treatment patients notice almost immediately that they have more clarity in their vision. Once the patient does the initial series of treatment they need to do regular maintenance treatment – usually once a month- to maintain the improvement.
