Today I came across an article that described a study of the use of DHEA and depression.
The researchers found that when they gave DHEA to depressed people not on anti-depressants 50% of them saw improvement with their symptoms. They were given quit a high dose (150mg three times a day) which can cause unwanted side effects.
When it comes to using bio-identical hormones in treating depression I personally have seen good responses to thyroid (especially T3), estradiol/estriol, and Testosterone. Just yesterday a 65 year old man commented that he felt like he “had gotten his life back” after being placed on testosterone and DHEA. For many depression sufferers 40 years or older bio-identical hormones is a better solution than anti-depressants.
