Over the years there has been mounting opposition to the fluoridation of public drinking water. The New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation states, Fluoride can harm bones, teeth, kidneys, the brain and more.
Now the National Research Council (NRC) has published a report in which they state, many Americans are exposed to fluoride in the ranges associated with thyroid effects, especially for people with iodine deficiency. More specifically, Robert Carton PhD, an environmental scientist with 30 years experience in the toxic chemical field says fluoride has detrimental effects on the thyroid gland of healthy males at 3.5mg a day. With iodine deficiency, the effect levels drops to 0.7 milligrams/day for an average male. The amount of fluoride in most water supplies is 1.0mg/L.
A large body of dentists, physicians, scientists, and environmentalists are petitioning Congress to stop water fluoridation until formal hearings are conducted. To sign a petition to support these professionals go to www.fluorideaction.net/.
