STIMULATING COLLAGEN GROWTH WITH YOUR OWN PLATELET-RICH PLASMA
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments have recently gained popularity in the realm of regenerative medicine due to their ability to stimulate cell regeneration and trigger tissue healing and cell reproduction. PRP treatments utilize proteins known as growth factors from the platelets of the patient’s own blood to stimulate the body’s natural collagen building process. When the highly concentrated platelets are injected into the tissue after cycling through a centrifuge to separate the components of the blood, growth factors flood the area and improve the volume and remodeling of that tissue. PRP treatments can be used for therapeutic reasons, such as joint pain as well as for cosmetic procedures, such as facials, hair restoration and dermal fillers.
WHAT IS PRP MICRO NEEDLING?
Micro needling, also known as percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), uses short, thin needles to create tiny punctures in the skin to prompt a collagen-stimulating healing response. This minimally invasive treatment is clinically proven to aid a variety of conditions, including wrinkles, fine lines, stretch marks, acne scars, sun spots, melasma and other skin irregularities without the use of harmful chemicals or surgery.
With a single treatment, patients generally notice visible change within two to four weeks. For optimal, lasting results, a series of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended. The majority of patients will have a red and flushed appearance for the first 24 to 48 hours.
PRP HAIR RESTORATION FOR MEN AND WOMEN
PRP treatment is a completely natural way of inducing hair regrowth. This three-step process uses only the patient’s own organic matter. First, the patient’s blood is drawn. Then, the blood is processed through a centrifuge in order to extract the platelet-rich plasma. Lastly, the platelet-rich plasma is injected into the patient’s scalp and hair follicles with a small needle. PRP hair loss treatment is attainable for both sexes. Many hair loss treatments are marketed only toward men, but many women also experience hair loss. People suffering from hair thinning, androgenetic alopecia (male/female pattern baldness), alopecia areata (an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss), recent rapid hair loss, or simply have areas of “weak quality” hair growth are ideal candidates for PRP hair restoration.
Results begin to show up within two to three months after the first treatment. Patients first notice less shedding followed by signs of hair regrowth and thicker, stronger hair. The number of treatments will vary based on individual need. Typically, a series of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart will achieve ideal results. Maintenance treatments may be two to four times per year depending on individual results and needs.
PRP AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL COSMETIC FILLERS
Cosmetic fillers are a popular way to rejuvenate the face, improve scars and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. PRP is a perfect alternative for those wanting the effect of fillers without the use of chemicals or synthetic fillers. While there are several effective fillers available on the market today, PRP offers a truly organic alternative to reestablish the skin’s vitality with the power of the patient’s own blood. PRP as a cosmetic filler helps skin heal and rejuvenate faster without the risk of an allergic reaction or skin sensitivity. It also provides results for a longer period of time. PRP can be injected into tear troughs, nasolabial folds, lips, oral commissures, marionette lines, scars, stretch marks and many others.
PRP may be used as an alternative to a dermal filler or in conjunction with it. Unlike dermal fillers which produce long-lasting volume artificially, PRP provides some volume while also stimulating the body’s own collagen production process. When the body’s own natural collagen is stimulated, PRP will help to naturally restore facial volume, remodel the tissue and improve facial lines, wrinkles, and folds. When used in conjunction with dermal fillers, PRP can help increase the effectiveness and longevity of the fillers.
Patients will see an increase in elasticity and plumpness of skin in as little as one treatment. Some patients may only require one treatment, while others may require one treatment monthly for three months to provide longer lasting results of up to two years.
LONGEVITY AND RESULTS OF PRP TREATMENTS
The results and longevity of PRP treatments are dependent on the patient’s ability to respond to their own cell stimulation, so individual outcomes may vary. Each PRP procedure has its own protocol and associated risks.
