A survey was carried out to evaluate whether the prescribing of antibiotics to children influences the duration of doctors visits. The end result was it did not. The reason this study was performed is that many doctors worry that they will either lose patients if they don’t prescribe antibiotics or they will have to spend more time explaining why they do not need antibiotics. Would some doctors rather practice bad medicine than risk losing their patients to other doctors?
If a doctor really has the welfare of his patient as his first priority and he respects their intelligence he will have satisfied patient regardless of whether or not he agrees with the patients; preconceived notions about what treatments are appropriate.
