WHEN YOU SHOULD SEE A DOCTOR…AND WHEN YOU SHOULDN’T
The fourth revealed the secret of Rabbi Mosche Ben Maimon, also known as Maimonides, is as follows:
“If the illness is stronger than the patient, there is no hope of saving him. And the physician is of no benefit at all. If a patient is stronger than the illness, he has no need of a physician as nature will cure him anyway. If the strength of the illness is equal to the patient, then he will need a physician. Most doctors are mistaken because they think they are strengthening the patient’s vitality. In fact, they are weakening it.”
WHY CHEMOTHERAPY IS NOT FOR EVERYONE
Especially with cancer patients, doctors tend to ignore the idea that there is no hope of saving patients who suffer from a disease or illness that is “stronger than the patient”. Dr. Albert Braverman, M.D., a board certified oncologist, put it eloquently when he said, “Many medical oncologists recommend chemotherapy for virtually any tumor with the hopefulness undiscouraged by almost invariable failure.” However, physicians are not entirely to blame for this. The patient’s spouse and family often pressure the physician to do everything possible in order to save their loved one, even though the chemotherapy itself worsens the patient’s health and quickens their demise.
INCREASING MICROBIAL RESISTANCE TO ANTIBIOTICS
Contrarily, Maimonides’ caution to physicians not to meddle in illnesses that are self-limiting is slowly gaining some traction today. Over a decade ago, doctors prescribed antibiotics indiscriminately for the slightest cold. Now, due to emerging microbial resistance to these drugs, there is less of a tendency to overprescribe. Studies have shown that most of these types of patients heal on their own.
HOW PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS WEAKEN THE BODY
As Maimonides states, it is only when the patient’s strength is equal to the illness’ strength that a physician’s services should be sought, though he cautions that most doctors are under the illusion that they are “strengthening the patient’s vitality” when they are actually weakening it. This is especially true for elderly patients. Research shows that the average older adult takes four or more prescription drugs every day. Furthermore, a whopping 39 percent of seniors take five or more prescriptions every day. When it comes to cancer patients, 43% receive 10 or more medications.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of the medications that are prescribed today are not intended to heal the patient. Instead, they are merely meant to manage illnesses. While each prescription was created to treat or manage a specific medical problem, each one also comes with its own risks and side effects. Over the long term, prescription medications ultimately weaken the patient further.
The counterargument is that these medications help patients live longer. This may be true, but at what cost to the patient’s vitality and quality of life?
TREATING CHRONIC DISEASES NATURALLY WITH ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES
If physicians would employ complementary alternative therapies, such as homeopathy, acupuncture, bioidentical hormones, and functional medicine, the majority of their patients suffering from chronic illness could restore their health and vitality.
